You GaGa to be kidding me

“Even while these people were worshiping the LORD, they were serving their idols. To this day their children and grandchildren continue to do as their fathers did” 2 Kings 17:41

“They didn’t pay any attention. They kept doing what they’d always done. As it turned out, all the time these people were putting on a front of worshiping God, they were at the same time involved with their local idols. And they are still doing it. Like father, like son.” The Message

Ok, so I was driving with my kids in the car, and we were flipping stations. A song came on the radio. I loved the beat but I couldn’t seem to identify what the heck she was singing. Now do I sound like my mother or what? Anyway, my kids seem to know every word. As they sang the song out loud, I heard them sing “God makes no mistakes; I’m on the right track baby; I was born this way” … I thought maybe this singer had crossed over to become a Christian Contemporary artist. Now that’s funny. Then I heard them sing some more. The rest of the song was nothing short of blasphemy. In addition to that, it sends a message to our youth that you can do or believe in anything you want, and God is ok with it. All of this wrapped up in a catchy little tune, by an artist who is known for going over the top.

I watched footage of this artist entering the Grammy Awards in a giant egg. There were four men holding onto a cart that held the egg. The cart looked similar to the one that the Levites carried the Ark of the Covenant on in 2 Samuel. In this chapter of the bible, it tells of a man named Uzzah, who was helping to carry the Ark. When an oxen stumbled, he reached up to steady it and touched the Ark. The Lord struck him dead because of his irreverence to the Lord and His Ark of the Covenant.

Ok, back to the Grammy’s. There was a woman with horns coming out of her forehead as well as her cheeks walking next to this egg touching her hand to it the entire time. In an interview on the red carpet, her choreographer explained that the artist was in the egg for 72 hours to perfect her DNA. She also said “We are birthing a whole new race tonight, one that will not have the ability to judge or hate.” She explained that once backstage, the group carrying this cart will need to go and perfect their DNA before they can perform as well.

From this egg emerged the singer doting a few sets of horns own, on stage as she came out to sing her new song “Born This Way”. Now I am sure some of you are thinking that she is just a performer and she is known to go over the top, however, some of the lyrics below indicate otherwise. Even if you are not versed in the bible, I am sure you can find more than a few discrepancies. In an interview with 60 minutes, she said “There’s nothing I’ve ever put on my body that I didn’t understand where it came from, the reference of it, who inspired it. There’s always some sort of story or a concept that I’m telling.”

The premise of the song is that God made us the way we are so just stop trying to change and love yourself, which doesn’t sound all that bad until she begins her lyrics. The song starts out “whether you love him or capital H I M, just put your paws up ‘cause you were born this way, baby” the song goes on to say that God doesn’t make mistakes. It says that if you just love yourself then you are set. One verse says “Believe capital H I M” and “Mi amore vole fe yah” which best translated means love needs faith. It then proceeds to discuss sexual orientation say that God made you like this so you don’t need to worry about it.

The problem with the words is that God’s Word paints quite a different picture. Please understand that I am not judging anyone who lives a different lifestyle than the norm, I am just pointing out the truth that can be found in the bible. I have people in my life that I love dearly whose orientations are outside of the lines of the bible. Though the bible teaches on these issues, it is very clear to say that we are to love them and not to judge or hate.

If you believe in God, then you believe in His Word. John 1:1 says “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” God’s Word also says that we must not add or subtract words from it (Deuteronomy 4:2). Using the keys of music and media, Satan and his subtle ways are creeping right through the door, even the doors of the church; and heading strait toward our kids.

Now at this point, you may have totally think that I have lost it and went way to the right side of the spectrum but before you chalk me up to that conclusion, I will leave you with the lyrics of the song. When you are finished here, you can look up the lyrics to her new hit “Judas”. But before you do, here is one final verse, 1 Corinthians 15:33 ESV says “Do not be deceived: “Bad company ruins good morals.”

Born This Way
It doesn't matter if you love him, or capital H-I-M
Just put your paws up
'Cause you were born this way, baby

Verse:
My mama told me when I was young
We are all born superstars
She rolled my hair and put my lipstick on
In the glass of her boudoir
"There's nothin wrong with lovin who you are"
She said, "'cause He made you perfect, babe"
"So hold your head up girl and you'll go far,
Listen to me when I say"

Chorus:
I'm beautiful in my way
'Cause God makes no mistakes
I'm on the right track baby
I was born this way
Don't hide yourself in regret
Just love yourself and you're set
I'm on the right track baby
I was born this way

Post-chorus:
Ooo there ain't no other way
Baby I was born this way
Baby I was born this way
Ooo there ain't no other way
Baby, I was born this way
I'm on the right track baby
I was born this way

Don't be a drag - just be a queen
Don't be a drag - just be a queen
Don't be a drag - just be a queen
Don't be!

Verse:
Give yourself prudence
And love your friends
Subway kid, rejoice of truth
In the religion of the insecure
I must be myself, respect my youth
A different lover is not a sin
Believe capital H-I-M (hey hey hey)
I love my life I love this record and
Mi amore vole fe yah (love needs faith)

Repeat chorus + post-chorus

Bridge:
Don't be a drag, just be a queen
Whether you're broke or evergreen
You're black, white, beige, chola descent
You're lebanese, you're orient
Whether life's disabilities
Left you outcast, bullied, or teased
Rejoice and love yourself today
'Cause baby you were born this way
No matter gay, straight, or bi,
Lesbian, transgendered life
I'm on the right track baby
I was born to survive
No matter black, white or beige
Chola or orient made
I'm on the right track baby
I was born to be brave

Repeat chorus + post-chorus

Outro/refrain:
I was born this way hey!
I was born this way hey!
I'm on the right track baby
I was born this way hey!

I was born this way hey!
I was born this way hey!
I'm on the right track baby
I was born this way hey!
