GOT FRUIT flies?

Galatians 5:22-23 "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control; against such things there is no law."

Last month we had an infestation of fruit flies. We couldn't understand where they were coming from. With no fruit sitting out on the counter, we were quite perplexed. We realized that they were trying to get the fruit snacks in the cupboard. Though the packages were sealed, they rapidly flew around trying to get into them. Why do fruit flies want to eat fruit? I think it's because it is so sweet. Just as fruit, or in this case fruit snacks are sweet, so are the fruits of the spirit. Speaking of fruit, we are going to take a look at what Galatians says about the fruits of the Spirit.

Let's begin our journey through Galatians 5. We will look at the difference between what the world tells us verses what the what the bible tells us. Paul starts out telling us that if we are in Christ, then we are free. He urges us not to fall into the yoke of slavery yet again. It speaks of circumcision and what it means to religion. Basically circumcision means that we are following man made rules, not what the what the word of God says. If we are strong in our rules, then we are in bondage, yet if we are strong in our faith to follow Christ, then we will remain free.

The bible tells us to be in chains to Christ(Eph 6:19-20) and all that He has done for us. It tells us not to be in chains for the things that this world has to offer. Last weekend, I attended a Beth Moore conference and one thing that she stated struck a chord with me. She said "The world wants excellence with no discipline". This statement could not be more true. We want to live life our way, with no side effects. We want our cake and not only eat it too, but not gain weight. We want to be able to keep relationships going, yet fight for our rights constantly without compromising. We want happy marriages, yet each person in the marriage deserves to be happy and meet their own needs. Unfortunately, we can't live this way forever without life's repercussions. So let's dive into the fruit bowl and see what the bible has to say.
