Be a PLANTER (Part 5)

Did you do your homework? What lies have you believed that surprised you? If you can't answer the 2nd question, then you need to redo your homework. :) The problem with the lies is that the more you hear them, the more true they sound. So we need to begin this process with coming before our God to ask His wisdom. Matthew 7:7 says "Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you."
"Dear heavenly Father, we come before You now with an important request. You see Father, we have done some serious homework. We have identified the lies that we have believed and want to replace them with the truth. The problem is, we cannot do this without Your wisdom. I ask You for wisdom, not just for myself, but for each peson that reads this devotion, to be able to understand Your word. I pray that You will give us the ability to find the truth that opposes the lie. I pray that You will give us grace as we know this is a journey and we will most likely fall. Help us Father to get back up and keep walking. I pray this in Jesus name ~ Amen"
Ok, let's continue. Philippians 4:8 says "Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable - if anything is excellent or praiseworthy - think about such things." I just love this verse. Thanks to a good friend, I now have an acrostic to remember this verse, thanks Jen.

E - excellent
R - right

So what we want to be is a planter.

Let's face it, anything that enters our mind is planted in the soil of our thoughts. If it is nourished, it will grow. It doesn't matter if it's a beautiful thought or thoughts that resemble more of a weed, either way, it's gonna grow. So we must take every thought captive (2 Corinthians 10:5). You need to be aware of each thought that enters your mind so that you can decide wether it gets planted or gets thrown out.

Athletes use a similar technique called "Thought stopping". While in a game, negative circumstanses or plays in a game can affect the ability of the player. The more they dwell on the negative, the worse they perform. So they must stop the negative thought and replace it with a positive one in order to finish the game without letting the apparent scenario spell out the ending. Our lives are no different, we must stop the negative thought at the door. Once we determine that the thought isn't worth planting, we must fill that space with something positive to replace it. We must re wallpaper our minds with the truth.

What's the truth? The word of God, plain and simple. The bible is the only truth that we must align our thoughts to. Once we become aware of a thought that enters. We need to ask ourselves is this thought pure, praiseworthy, lovely, admirable, noble, true, excellent, or right? I usually only get a couple in before I determine that the thought is yet another lie from the depths of hell. But if I am not meditating on the word, I will never be able to counteract the lie. Like a snake bite victim is given an anti-venom to eliminate the deadly effects of the bite, the word of God, when read and thought on will keep us from the deadly effects of the lies being thrown our way.

I pray that you will begin to read, study and learn the truth so that you may be able to think healthy thoughts. As with any journey, this is all up to you. No one can help you to make the right choices. I pray that you are so tired of the former thought life that you are ready for something new. I pray that you call on Jesus to be your guide for the remainder of your journey.
