Enough of this!

rac·ism
/ˈrāˌsizəm/

noun

  1. prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior.

Here is the definition of a word that is so evident in our world and people have had it.  Will Smith said it best when he said "Racism isn't getting worse, it's getting filmed."  Here we are sitting with the truth in front of us. We stand as a nation divided and I say “Enough of this!”

In the Bible, Jesus exclaims “enough of this!” a few times. When the time came near to be the sacrifice, to fulfill the reason He came to this earth, He tried to explain to the disciples what was to be. They proceeded to tell Jesus to grab two swords. As if to fix it.  Another time that comes to mind is when Jesus is arrested. One of His disciples, most likely Peter, tries to defend Jesus and cuts the ear of a guard off.

Those words could not be more true today as we face the challenge of a nation at war within itself.  So what's the problem?
Racism is not in our police departments, it’s in our hearts.

It’s so easy to judge and want to fix, but we see with the disciples, clearly,  this doesn’t work. So what do we do? The answer is simple. Search our hearts.   Ask yourself the tough questions...

  • Do I look at a certain race and think they are plotting to kill Americans? Can’t drive well? Aren’t a hard worker? Aren’t citizens?
  • Do you lock your car doors when you see someone of a different color?
  • Or maybe that a certain race is below you, as if to say you deserve a better socioeconomic status?
  • What about the grocery store, did you ever see a person buy food with food stamps or EBT card and judge the items they pay cash for?

Do you have judgement in your heart? You see we can’t claim the problem is in the police force. Most of these men and women are honorable individuals who fight for what is right. The bad eggs who continue to dredge up the beliefs of their ancestors are a part of the problem, but are you?

Did you answer yes to one of those questions?

Change will not happen until we are willing to admit where we stand. Is it too late! NO it’s not because we are still alive.

So now what?  The answer is not violence.  Per Isaiah, God is the judge and He will make it right. See below.  What needs to happen is to end the silence, to stop pretending we are fine and to stand up... together!
Are you ready?
Are you ready to see your own heart? Ask God to reveal any wicked way within (Ps. 139).  Are you ready to stand against those close to you if need be and not tolerate their words, beliefs and actions? Are you ready to correct your own responses and ways of thinking?  The winds of change are blowing... are you ready to stand?

Isaiah 42
“Here is my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen one in whom I delight;  I will put my Spirit on him, and he will bring justice to the nations.  He will not shout or cry out, or raise his voice in the streets.  A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out.  In faithfulness he will bring forth justice;  he will not falter or be discouraged till he establishes justice on earth"
